Your guide through the central questions of our time.
Guided by the intellectual and practical work of socialist construction in the Global South, we are building a platform to enrich the debates, theories and strategies that underpin our common struggle for a better world.
About
The Academy is an internationalist political education program designed in the service of political movements everywhere.
By drawing on the rich tradition — past and present — of Marxist thought and socialist construction in the Global South, it aims at giving organizers the tools they need to advance their struggles against capitalism and imperialism and build a new world in common.
Objective
The Academy aims to bring the rich theoretical and strategic traditions of Third World Marxism to bear on the construction of popular movements in the Global North and Global South as they enter a turbulent historical period.
Principles
The Academy is based on seven overarching principles.
- Rooted in the South: The program will be rooted in revolutionary thought from the Global South, seeking in particular to transmit lessons in contemporary socialist construction to the North.
- Grounded in Political Forces: The program will be based in and led by organized vanguard forces which either have existing political education programs or are willing and able to establish them.
- Infrastructure, not Institutionalization: The program will not seek to establish its own school. Instead, it will bring existing projects into dialogue with one another, establishing a global network.
- Asks the Right Questions: The program will help participants develop the ideological tools to answer concrete questions related to their struggle — in particular, the nature of their national struggle and its relationship to the international situation. Who are our friends? Who are our foes? How do we understand imperialism?
- Teaches the Teachers: The program will seek to train cadres of movement leaders, who will be tasked with replicating the program within their own struggles.
- Prevents Insularity: The program engages the rank-and-file members of host organizations to ensure that they benefit from the exchanges.
- Overcomes Asymmetries of Experience: On both South-South and North-South geographic axes, the program will help movements overcome differences in political consciousness and strategic organization.
Curriculum
The program will focus on three overarching components:
- Theory: Participants will engage in the fundamental analytical methodology of Marxism, gaining clarity on political economy, philosophy and class struggle, in particular from the perspective of the Global South.
